Dancing is a fun way to exercise and burn many calories. When I dance, I forget who I am when my body and soul merge with the beat and movements. It’s probably the feeling an actor experiences when they get into character; either way, it’s a magical feeling and one of the best ways to work out. For this reason, it was my first specialty twelve years ago, when I was certified as a Group Fitness Instructor.

At Dancing Spirit LLC, we teach a Zumba class, which is a fusion of Caribbean and world rhythm music with easy-to-follow steps. In Spanish, ‘Zumba’ means ‘buzz’, like a bee moving fast! In 2012, Zumba was taught to more than 12 million people by certified Zumba instructors at 110,000 sites, in 125 countries around the world. (Zumba)

Zumba provides “a total workout, combining all elements of fitness—cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy, and a serious dose of awesomeness”. As a Zumba Instructor, I start new students with a Zumba Gold format as the participants transition into the regular class. Zumba Gold keeps active seniors and/or beginners in mind. It uses the same movements and formula as the regular Zumba but moves at half tempo. The class keeps in mind that each participant is different, but that the main reason they joined is because they love to dance. I love leading this class because I can feel the energy it creates, just like a party!
